Money moves in seconds. The information around it has to keep up.

Silverfern Ltd is an IT services and consulting firm working in fintech. We build, connect and operate the systems that carry information between transacting parties — the payment provider and the acquirer, the marketplace and the bank, the ledger and the people who have to reconcile it on Monday morning.

An independent engineering team. No reseller agreements and no licence margins — we are paid for the work, not for what you run it on.

Services

Six things we are asked for, over and over

Most of our work starts the same way: two systems that were never designed to talk to each other now have to agree about money, and someone has to make that agreement reliable, observable and boring.

01

Integration engineering

Connecting payment providers, acquirers, banks, ledgers and back-office systems — API-first where possible, file-based where the counterparty insists. Retries, idempotency and failure handling are part of the build, not a later ticket.

  • PSP, acquirer and bank connectivity
  • Ledger, ERP and CRM interfaces
  • Sandbox, certification and go-live support

02

Message routing & translation

Moving a transaction between parties that use different dialects. We map, validate and route messages between standards, keep a canonical model in the middle, and make the translation auditable in both directions.

  • ISO 8583 to ISO 20022 migration
  • Canonical models and schema governance
  • Routing, enrichment and replay

03

Reconciliation & settlement

Matching what was authorised against what actually settled, and turning the difference into a short, workable exception queue instead of a spreadsheet. Settlement files, fees, chargebacks and FX all land in the same picture.

  • Matching rules and exception workflows
  • Settlement, fee and chargeback ingestion
  • Daily close and break reporting

04

Data pipelines & reporting

One place where finance, operations and compliance read the same numbers. We build the pipelines that collect transaction data, keep it consistent, and feed the dashboards and regulatory extracts that depend on it.

  • Event capture and warehousing
  • Management and regulatory extracts
  • Retention, lineage and audit trails

05

Consulting & architecture

A second opinion with the code open. Integration reviews before a contract is signed, target architectures before a rebuild is funded, and an honest read on whether the platform you have can carry the volume you are promising.

  • Architecture and integration reviews
  • Technical due diligence on a vendor or counterparty
  • Roadmaps, estimates and build-or-buy calls

06

Run & observability

Flows that somebody is actually watching. Monitoring per counterparty and per message type, alerting that fires before the first support email, and a documented path from alert to fix inside the support window we agree with you.

  • Monitoring, alerting and service levels
  • Incident response and post-incident notes
  • Release, rollback and change control

Approach

Map the flow before touching the code

Information between two companies fails at the seams — in the assumptions nobody wrote down. So we start by drawing the seam, on one page, and agreeing on it with both sides.

  1. 01

    Map

Every party, every message, every handover on one diagram: who sends what, in which format, on whose schedule, and what happens when it does not arrive. The first week usually pays for itself right here.

  2. 02

    Contract

We fix the interface before the implementation: schemas, identifiers, error semantics, retry rules and the definition of “processed”. Both sides sign off on the contract, so integration testing becomes a formality rather than a negotiation.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

Short iterations in your repository, your cloud account, your pipeline. You see the commits as they land, and you could hire someone else to read them tomorrow. Tests cover the failure paths, because that is where money goes missing.

  4. 04

    Operate, then hand over

We run the flow through its first real peaks, tune the alerts against actual traffic and write the runbook while the detail is still fresh. Then we keep operating it, or hand it to your team — both are normal endings.

Legible over clever

A payment flow is read far more often than it is written — by auditors, by counterparties, by whoever is on call at three in the morning. We optimise for the reader.

One source of truth

Every transaction keeps one identifier from the first message to final reconciliation. If two systems disagree, there is a defined answer to which one is right.

No lock-in by design

Your code, your accounts, your data, documented as we go. Our value is in the engineering, not in being the only people who understand it.

Engagements

Three ways to work with us

Scope and pricing are agreed per engagement. What follows is the shape most conversations settle into.

Advisory

For teams that have engineers, but want a second pair of eyes.

  • Architecture and integration reviews
  • Technical due diligence on a counterparty or vendor
  • Standing time each month for design questions
  • Written findings, not just a call

Usually a fixed review, or a monthly retainer of agreed hours.

Managed operations

For flows that are live and have to stay that way.

  • Monitoring and alerting that we maintain
  • Agreed response times inside a defined support window
  • Counterparty change tracking — format and API updates
  • Monthly service report with incidents and trends

A monthly fee based on the flows covered and the support window you need.

About

A small team that likes the unglamorous half of fintech

Silverfern Ltd is an independent IT services and consulting company. We work in and around payments: the integrations, the message formats, the settlement files and the reconciliation that sit underneath the products other people demo on stage.

We are deliberately small and senior. Engagements are staffed by the people who scoped them, clients talk to the engineers doing the work, and we take on the number of flows we can genuinely keep an eye on.

The name is the silver fern: an unhurried plant that keeps unfurling in the same direction — which is roughly how we think good infrastructure should grow.

Who we work with

  • Payment service providers
  • Acquirers & processors
  • E-money & wallet issuers
  • Marketplaces & platforms
  • Lenders
  • Treasury & finance operations

Tell us what is not arriving

A sentence about the flow, the two systems involved and what goes wrong is enough to start. We reply within one business day, and the first call is with an engineer rather than a salesperson.
